*****************************

As a new parent or parent-to-be, the number of advice and how-to books available is overwhelming. I know, because I’ve purchased most of them at some point or another over three pregnancies.

While most are valuable in certain ways, there is only one book that I keep coming back to time and time again: Baby Bargains by Denise and Alan Fields. Apparently I’m in good company, as the book and its authors have also been featured on:

  • The Oprah Winfrey Show (enough said!)
  • NBC’s Today Show
  • Good Morning America

With quotes in:

  • The Wall Street Journal
  • Time Magazine
  • The New York Times – calling the book “the bible for new parents”

Even little ole me has included the book as one of the 7 Most Useful Gifts for a First Time Mom.

So, what is all the fuss about?

This guide book is the definitive resource for all baby and maternity related products. It helps overwhelmed parents make sense of everything available for purchase, spelling out what you need and what you don’t.

Even better, it rates every product listed on an A+ through F scale, bucketing them into Good, Better, or Best categories.

So let’s say you’re looking for a convertible car seat. You would first read the introductory section describing car seats and why you need one. You would then review the following sections:

  • Getting Started: When Do You Need This Stuff?
  • Sources to Find Car Seats
  • Best Online Sources
  • What More Money Buys You
  • Smart Shopper Tips
  • Safe and Sound Tips
  • Money-Saving Secrets
  • The Name Game: Reviews of Selected Manufacturers

Now that you have a solid overview, you would:

  1. Flip through all the specific car seat options listed in order of grade A+ through F. For each, you could read through the Pros, Cons, and Comments.
  2. Check out the car seat’s price along with the NHTSA ease of use rating.
  3. At the end of the section, read through the authors’ Good, Better, and Best rated products, along with any extra considerations such as “If Grandma is Buying.”
  4. Take a look at the short chart listing each car seat’s maker, model, price, weight limits, rating, and comments.

In short, more than enough information to make an educated and economical decision.

The same format exists for every product set reviewed – everything from cribs to diapers to breast pumps to monitors to strollers and more. I have not found a more comprehensive and accurate baby product resource anywhere. It’s perfect for an expectant parent, for help with a baby registry, or for a parent of young children.

But, do I really need it? Isn’t this information available online?

It probably is – if you have hours to research every product, manufacturer, and brand. I simply don’t have that kind of time so I use the book as my first look, and then follow up online for any other information I might be looking for. In every case, I can honestly say that my subsequent research matches the information provided in the book.

I already have children. Do I really need a book like this?

That is probably up to you to decide, but I have personally purchased a new edition for each child. I had no idea how quickly child products, rules, and safety regulations change so I like to ensure I’m reading about the latest and greatest. And I continue to use the books for long after my children are born as I consider purchasing new items for different stages.

Okay, okay, I’m sold. Where can I get this “bible for new parents”?

I’m glad you asked! If you need a copy right away, you can easily order on Amazon: Baby Bargains: Secrets to Saving 20%-50%. The price is right and Prime members are eligible for 1 or 2-day shipping. You can also opt to download it to your Kindle for even cheaper – and immediate – access (although I recommend a hard copy of this book so that you can easily flip through and highlight/bookmark pages of interest).

But a better option may be to enter the giveaway hosted by myself and the book’s authors to receive one of three copies for FREE!

Giveaway Details

You can enter the giveaway any time between Monday 12/28/15 and Monday 1/11/16. Three winners will each receive one copy of Baby Bargains: Secrets to Saving 20%-50%.

Simply follow the directions below, using any of your preferred entry methods. The more methods used, the more entries you receive!

Please note that different methods provide different numbers of entries – for example, subscribing to our newsletter gives you four entries.

Winners will be announced after the contest has ended.

Good Luck!
