With vacation season rapidly approaching, this is the perfect time to begin thinking about travel preparations. Packing for an entire family is challenging, to say the least, and can easily spiral out of control. Today’s guest poster provides some simple tips to help minimize the headache associated with packing for a family getaway.
Packing a whole family for a vacation can be horrifying and a complete nightmare. As a mother, you have to think about everyone and everything. However, with some small tips, all this mess can be turned into a piece of cake; you just need a bit of help and energetic music and you are good to go.
Roll it up and Cross Pack
Some research and my personal experience show that rolling up clothes instead of folding them can save you up to 30% of space. So roll up your sleeves and give everyone a bunch to roll. At the bottom of the suitcase you should put bulkier stuff, such as jeans and sweatshirts, then cover them with rolls of shirts and t-shirts, and finally your undies and socks on top. Another very important trick for saving space and avoiding lost clothes is cross packing. Sometimes, with all the fuss and inaccuracy of airport staff, your luggage may get lost and you do not want a family member without any clothes left. That is why every bag should contain some essential clothes for each member of the family.
Choose Luggage Wisely
Choosing appropriate luggage for the vacation is a tough challenge. You have to consider lots of factors, such as safety, ease of access, and the size of bags you plan on carrying. Lay them all out and assign the luggage to your family. You can use a special colored ribbon and name tags to mark your luggage so you could easily find it after the trip. Also, your documents and basically all the essentials should be safe and sound. For the documents, money, and tickets, it is the best to keep them by your side in a purse or carry-on; as far as the rest of the luggage is concerned, take my advice and easily pack it in some of the anti-theft pacsafe duffel bags and never worry about a thing.Simple tips to help alleviate the horror of packing for a #family #vacation! #Parenting #Travel Click To Tweet
Stock up on Essentials
Let’s face it, children and husbands can be needy, and that is why you should always come prepared. If you are traveling with a baby, do not let yourself run out of diapers, especially if it is a long ride. Basically, pack double what you normally need. Another essential for the whole family is food. Pack some sandwiches and light snacks for the kids and a big meaty one for your husband. And for the baby, have several bottles of baby food or milk. Use your carry-on and its pockets for storing all of these, and most certainly make them accessible at any time to avoid meltdowns. Also, have all necessary creams, powders, and first aid kits ready; you never know what can surprise you. Have some spare clothes available, because there will be mess, either from that meaty sandwich or spilled water and juice. Lastly, do not forget your children’s soft blankets and pillows for a comfy sleep during the ride.
Brace yourself for Doing Laundry
I know, doing laundry on vacation is not what you dream about, but if you come prepared it won’t be so bad. Since everyone can get messy, it is good to pack 2 or 3 mesh laundry bags. You can easily purchase some stain removers and detergent and finding a washing machine and dryer that runs on quarters is much easier than having to do all that with your hands in a hotel sink.
Yes, preparing the whole family for a vacation is a drag, but if you plan ahead and think of everything you can get ahead of the game. Have everybody entertained, full, and clean, and simply sit back and enjoy your drink on vacation.
