It’s that time. Your sweet baby is a few months old, and has suddenly become an irritable drooling monster who chews on anything she can get her hands on. It’s officially Teething Time.
You rush to the drugstore to find something – anything – to provide relief. But the options are overwhelming. Amber teething necklaces, tablets, drops, and gels with unrecognizable ingredients. Which options are the best? Which are the safest?
Now that I’m on baby number three, I’ve pretty much tried everything on the market. Poor baby number one was my guinea pig as I searched for something that would soothe his teething pain yet was still safe and natural. I finally found the winner, and have already stocked up for baby number three:
Boiron’s Camilia Teething Relief
Why is this the best?
Quite simply, benzocaine is NOT an ingredient. Benzocaine is a local anesthetic found in several other popular infant teething gels. While effective, there is a risk of methemoglobinemia particularly for children under the age of two – a rare yet serious, and potentially fatal, condition. The FDA put out a warning to parents to abstain from using products with benzocaine in children under the age of two for this reason.
No thanks.
I’d rather stick with other ingredients that do not pose such risks. Additionally, Camilia Teething Relief includes NO sugar, NO preservatives, and is completely tasteless and odorless.
But is it effective?
Absolutely! No matter how safe a product is, I simply wouldn’t use it if it wasn’t effective. One dose provides almost immediate relief for my cranky teething babies. It is quick, easy, and long-lasting.
An added benefit is that my babies have not minded it at all – they eagerly let me finish applying the liquid without fuss, perhaps anticipating the relief or, at a minimum, not minding the taste.
How is it applied?
The drops come in convenient single-use liquid oral doses. You simply twist off the cap and squeeze it directly onto your child’s teeth and gums. The small doses are easy to throw into a purse or even a wallet for men.
So what exactly does the product do?
It provides your child some much-needed relief! Helps to ease teeth and gum pain and – in my experience – almost immediately improves irritability. I’m told that the product also helps to relieve minor digestive disorders associated with teething and that may very well be the case, as we have not experienced these issues when using the product.
Okay, you had me at “improves irritability.” Where can I find it to give it a try?
The product is widely available. I’ve purchased it at Sprouts, Whole Foods, Walgreens, and other local drugstores. You can also purchase Camilia Teething Relief online.
Another option is to enter to WIN a box completely FREE, along with other prizes, by entering the giveaway I’m currently hosting with the manufacturer, Boiron.
